Project Description
The Engawa project was conceived as a breathless transition between the shelter of the home and the vitality of the garden. By utilizing an expansive, black-framed glass envelope, the room is flooded with dappled sunlight that shifts throughout the day. The interior architecture mirrors the outdoors with exposed, raw timber ceiling beams that draw the eye outward, while the minimalist, earth-toned plaster walls provide a quiet backdrop for the changing seasons.
Furniture & Styling
The "Monolith" Coffee Table: Sitting at the center of the space is a custom-milled, raw oak coffee table. Its thick, cylindrical base and expansive circular top ground the room, showcasing the natural grain and beautiful imperfections of the wood.
The Low-Profile Linen Sectional: Designed for deep lounging, this modular sofa features unbleached, heavy-weight linen upholstery that will soften and patina over time. Its low stance keeps the sightlines to the garden completely unobstructed.
The Woven Teak Lounge Chair: Adding a touch of mid-century organic form, this accent chair features a breathable woven cane back and seat, offering lightweight contrast to the heavier foundational pieces.

Material & Texture Palette
Architecture: Raw timber beams and minimalist black steel window framing.
Flooring: Large-format, matte stone tile layered with a highly textured, hand-woven jute rug.
Decor: Oversized, hand-thrown terracotta and clay vessels with a weathered finish, housing mature indoor trees that mirror the exterior landscaping.
Art & Lighting: A large, textured plaster canvas art piece in monochromatic earth tones, complemented by a soft, diffused fabric drum pendant light.
